The Thanksgiving holiday is upon us, Facebook users are posting what they’re most thankful for and turkeys are selling out in grocery stores – yep, sounds like November! While most of us spend time being grateful for our families, our health and a roof over our heads, rarely do you see the person who is thankful for their job.
Sure, your job may take you away from your family for 8 or more hours a day and requires you to crawl from beneath those cozy sheets way too early, but there are many reasons this month to be thankful for your position, your employer and your coworkers. Wondering how? Here are five easy tips to help you be more thankful at work:

  1. Remember why you have your job in the first place

Thankfulness is helpful at even the most hectic times. Stop and take the time to remember to be thankful the next time frustration kicks in with that difficult customer. Customers, even the hard to manage ones, are the reason you have a job after all!

  1. Recall your competitors

Your competitors challenge you and your company to be the best you that you can be. They push you out of your comfort zone and often times show you that are you are capable of doing more than you ever dreamed. For that, be grateful.

  1. Start the thankful train

Show your appreciation and gratitude for your colleagues and your boss! It’s been said time and time before, but positivity yields positivity. Thanking Robert from Finance for going above and beyond for you will likely make Robert thank Dinah in Marketing for helping with his project and so on and so on. You can start a domino effect of sincere appreciation! Sounds like an awesome work environment, right?

  1. Set aside time

At the end of each work day, set aside time to reflect. Maybe you do this on your car ride home, or on a train through the suburbs, but make sure to put effort into remembering what was positive about each day. Bonus points if you take the time to write down your thoughts in a journal. On days you’re feeling exceptionally lousy, you can break out that journal and look back on all of the reasons you have to be thankful.

  1. Ask your coworkers

You might be surprised to learn that you and your coworkers aren’t thankful for the same things, which can help you learn more about yourself and more about them. Bonding with your coworkers, even over simple and small details, is always something to be thankful for.
