What makes the holiday season such a special time of year? Easy – traditions! The unique holiday traditions that families and friends share each year is hands-down what makes this time of year so distinct. Traditions bring people from all walks of life together, uniting us through peace, love and joy.
This year, we thought it might be fun to share some of the unique holiday traditions from our own Medix teammates. Who knows, you might find one you enjoy enough to adopt with your own family and friends!

Megan, Director of Human Resources – Chicago, IL

“One of my favorite Christmas traditions growing up was receiving handmade wooden ornaments from my grandpa each year. He would make a wooden ornament in a different shape (Santa Clause, snowflakes, angels, etc.) every year for each of his grandchildren and would write our name on it so that we had one for every Christmas that we celebrated. I can remember all of us being so excited to see what shape it would be that Christmas as we looked at our presents, and I now have a really amazing collection of ornaments that I get to hang on my Christmas tree. My grandpa has passed now, but seeing his ornaments reminds me of his love for me each year at Christmas!”

CJ, Sr. Regional Recruitment Advisor – Orange County, CA

“My family and I usually go to church here in Irvine on Christmas Eve. Then, we drive up to Long Beach afterwards to spend time with all of our relatives and cousins, and have tamales for dinner. Yum! I can’t wait!”

Bob, Recruitment Advisor – Chicago, IL

“When I think of the holidays, my first thought goes to my family. The season wouldn’t mean a thing without them – not only my immediate family, but my extended family as well. Given we don’t see each other often, we usually double up on the holidays. We celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving together! 50 people gather for food, good times and a gift exchange. Soon after dinner, Santa arrives and all those who are unmarried take a seat on the big man’s lap. We end the night with a piñata, a family tradition that I still don’t know the origins of. The holidays are a great time of year in general, and for me, it all starts with family.”

Olivia, Account Executive – Denver, CO

“Christmas is my favorite holiday, as it is the one time of year that my entire family is able to get together. We usually celebrate together on Christmas Eve by playing Christmas bingo, doing a white elephant gift exchange, and eating oyster stew (it’s good, I promise). Happy holidays!”

Kayla, Recruiter – Parsippany, NJ

“Each year, my family has a tradition of opening gifts with our entire extended family. When you open your gifts you have to sit in ‘the chair’, which is essentially the throne where everyone watches you and says their ooo’s and ahhh’s. Some hate it, some love it, and that’s due to all eyes being on them. We have had this tradition going for longer than I can remember. Along with this tradition, we celebrate every Christmas Eve (and my brother’s birthday, which happens to be the same day) by going out to dinner in town.
This season is the best time of year, and I can finally listen to Mariah Carey’s ‘All I want For Christmas Is You’ as much as I want with no excuse needed.  I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season and prosperous new year!”
We couldn’t have said it better, Kayla! From all of us at Medix, here’s to the holiday traditions that bring the joys of the season to life, and to happiness throughout the coming year. Cheers!
